It's official... the word "blog" has echoed around the Niagara Wine Trail here enough to finally stick to one of the wineries. In my constant buzzing around town drinking wine and praising the new wine media I have come across many folks that still laugh at the blogosphere. " Put that in your blog" is an often sarcastic utterance that makes me a bit uneasy as I realize that people think it's often a waste of time.
I've spoke to a few wineries that just didn't see the point in a winery blog. I've mentioned that wine bloggers can help get the word out to the wine hungry internet generation that happily spends money on things like entertainment, food, and wine. One winery, that shall remain nameless, thinks that if it's not Wine Spectator, it's not worth a sample.
But now I'm happy to announce that Freedom Run Winery in Lockport, NY has taken steps towards opening a conversation with it's customers on its new winery blog. Their winery has a lot of plans for their business, some of which are as bold as converting a 1826 stone farmhouse into a Champagne House for private events or opening a recently restored 200 year old barn for community square dancing parties. They're not your typical winery and they want you to know exactly what they're up to. Now I can only hope that a few more wineries up here in the fastest growing wine region in New York pick up on the blog idea.
